SpeakTrue for people with ALS and MND
In the UK and some other countries, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is often called MND (motor neurone disease). MND is a group of conditions, and ALS is the most common one. If ALS or MND has changed how you speak, SpeakTrue can say your words out loud.
SpeakTrue is a text-to-speech and AAC app for people with speech loss. AAC means tools that help you communicate when speech is hard. It works in a web browser and in the iPhone app.
Type to speak
Type a message and press play. SpeakTrue says it out loud in the voice you choose. Read more about typing to speak on the web and iPhone.
Make a voice from your own recordings
If you can still speak, you can record your voice now. SpeakTrue can make a voice from those recordings. Then you type, and SpeakTrue speaks in that voice. Some people call this voice banking. Keep your own copy of your recordings. SpeakTrue does not keep the samples used for Premium voices. On-device recordings stay on your phone unless you save the voice to your account.
How close the voice sounds to you depends on your recordings and the kind of voice. Read about voice cloning and voice banking.
Save phrases for quick replies
The Soundboard keeps messages you say often. Tap a saved message to play it. You do not have to type it again.
Speak when you are offline
The iPhone app has on-device voices. They run on your phone, work offline and have no usage limit. Cloud voices need an internet connection.
